n. 1. One who sends goods from one place to another not in the same
city or town, esp. one who sends goods by water.

SHIPPER. One who ships or puts goods on board of a vessel, to be
carried to another place during her voyage. In general, the shipper
is bound to pay for the hire of the vessel, or the freight of the

In fan fiction circles, a shipper is an author who espouses a certain
romantic pairing between two particular characters in his or her
fiction, usually not a "canonical" pairing (i.e., not
one appearing in the original works on which the fan fiction is
based).
The term is also used prejoratively by critics who complain shippers
sometimes pair off characters without regard to how logically feasible
or in-character such pairings would actually be.
