Without roads, we would have nowhere to drive our
cars. Without a motor fuel tax, we would have no roads. Here at
the Illinois Department of Revenue, we collect approximately $1.3
billion annually to help, in part, build the state's roads and
bridges. Programs such as railroad crossing protection, boating
safety, and vehicle emission testing also benefit from motor fuel
taxes.
